Two Words to Say Every Morning

I rolled out of bed and sluggishly stumbled into our empty kitchen.

The rising sun made its way through the cracked curtains in our living room, lighting up every part of our house.

I thought about that verse from Lamentations.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

I stood still, taking in a deep breath before letting out the first two words of the day:

Thank You.

What else was there to say?

I was awake.
I was alive.
I was taken care of.
I was welcomed with new mercies.
I had the gift of a new day ahead of me.

Thank You.

I still had a long list of questions and a mind full of fears, but they felt less heavy and pressing.

Those two words turned my eyes from looking in and placed them above.

There is something about starting the day with gratitude and recognition.

And slowly I am beginning to see life is meant to be enjoyed.

And I am starting to believe I am better off beginning each day with these two words.

.. .. ..

With hope,
