So Far.

If you had asked me a few years ago if I would still be writing and performing spoken word poetry at the age of 32 … I probably would have said no.

I wouldn’t have had an answer for what I would be doing, but it would not be spoken word.

And yet, it is what I am doing.

Well, it is one of the things I am doing.

And I feel like I am finally starting to get the hang of it.

Today I released a new album of some of my favorite poems.

It’s called So Far.

And you can (and should) listen to it wherever you stream music!

When I first started writing I would stay up late reading blogs by accomplished writers. In their messages they would often talk of “finding your voice.” They’d follow this up with the painful remark that this process could take years and years.

And they were right.

Good things take time.

It took me about 6 years of writing to find my voice as a writer.
It took me about 26 years of living to truly be who I am.
It took me about 28 years to realize what I want to do with my life.
And it took me about .0002 seconds to realize Pancake was the perfect dog for us.

Sometimes you just know.

Other times it is a long process in multiple directions with thousands of questions and not enough answers.

Or coffee.

Over the past two months I’ve been sharing each track off So Far and telling the story behind the words with my Patreon community. It has been an exhausting joy to put together stories and pull out moments from the past. While sharing these poems with them I realized how much my writing has changed over time.

So have I.

Writing has allowed me to slow down, open up, ask questions, lean in, and keep going.

This album is a collection of answers, discoveries, more questions, and the truth I hold fast to.

I hope you will enjoy it.

I certainly enjoyed writing these poems.
