And Maybe Today
And Maybe Today

and maybe today we can watch the sunrise in the morning
and sunset at night
and maybe today we can leave the darkness
and chase the light
and maybe today we will let our old high school mixtapes
be our escape
and maybe today we can start reading Harry Potter for the hundredth time
and later on tonight we can open up that bottle of wine.
and maybe today we can take a drive through town with the windows down
and maybe today we can talk about Tiger King
and send each other the most ridiculous memes
and maybe today we can have an extra scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream
and maybe today we can make art
and puppy chow
and shadow puppets on the wall if we remember how
and maybe today we will
exhale grace and inhale peace
and begin to believe that this is where we are supposed to be
and maybe today we can reminisce about what was
and look forward to what is to come
and maybe today we can write stories and scribble poems
words to remind the world that we are not alone
and maybe today we will rest
and remind ourselves that we are doing our best
and maybe today we can find peace in the present
and grace in the past.
and maybe today we can hold onto hope
and pray for this to pass
and maybe today we will see that we are still breathing
and we are still believing
and isn’t this still such a beautiful thing?
and maybe today we will see that we can still
spread hope
and announce love
and remind one another
that we are not done
we are not done.
only today have we been given this day.
what a gift it is to live and to be alive.
and what a gift it is to be here for this time.
what a gift this is.
