I Want To See Tomorrow

Today is all we have and today is the only place we can be,
but tomorrow is coming.
And when today is done, I want to see tomorrow.

I want to see tomorrow
Because I love the way the first sip of coffee reminds me of grace.
Because of love and how it has broken me down and built me up.
Because of summer and the way it makes me feel like me.

And I want to see tomorrow because I am slowly beginning to see and believe just how good this life can be.
Here there are poems that need to be written, books that are ready to be read, and dogs that need to be pet.
And here she is by my side and I think we’re hitting our stride.

I want to see tomorrow
Because I miss my family and Florida and the way the sunrise hits the ocean’s waves.
Because I finally listened to Jesus and started resting and this has changed everything.
And because of diners that believe in the five sweetest words: breakfast food served all day.

I want to see tomorrow
Because I’m still waiting and praying to be called dad.
Because of conversations with Trevor and Old Fashioneds with Aaron
and I think it’s time to go back to Cancun.

And although the future freaks me out, fear has never been a good enough reason to keep me from stepping into the unknown.
And when I slow down I can see how there is joy all around me.
Something inside me believes that for all I have done and felt and wondered, there is more to the story and hope keeps this story from ending.

And I want to live a story of mercy and kindness and creativity and faithfulness.
A life that invites you to continue, because it is a beautiful thing to continue.
And I’ll continue, because I still have hope to spread and a little something left to give.
And so do you.

Today is all we have
and today is the only place we can be,
but tomorrow is coming.

With hope,

Tanner Olson
